B-Sides: Music & Other Ephemera

More Noble

Three more benefit shows have been scheduled to help Jason Noble of Shipping News cover his medical costs. One you can walk to, the other two you’ll need a plane.

The walker is Jan. 31 at Headliners Music Hall (1386 Lexington Road, 584-8088) and features D.W. Box, Ultra Pulverize, Second Story Man, Lucky Pineapple and Wax Fang. Showtime is 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 advance, $12 at the door. Admission is also included for those with tickets from The Airborne Toxic Event & Calexico with The Louisville Orchestra on Jan. 30.

The other two concerts are scheduled for Feb. 5-6 in Verona, Italy, and feature Uzeda and Three-Second Kiss, friends who have played with Noble’s various bands.

Sister act
Kanye West protégé Melisa Young, aka Kid Sister, headlines Halfway To Forecastle, the companion event started by J.K. McKnight a couple of years ago to help prime the pump for his annual Forecastle event in July. Last year, the Captain handed over Halfway’s headliner duties to Alive Records’ Buffalo Killers. The next Halfway has an electronic theme with Sister, LA Riots, Lady Foursquare, Kid Color, Laylow and others on the lineup. This all goes down Jan. 23 at The Pointe, a 90-000-square-foot former industrial warehouse. Advance tickets are $15 and can be purchased at etix.com or at ear X-tacy (1534 Bardstown Road, 452-1799, www.earx-tacy.com).

Due to the holidays and LEO’s impending relocation, we will postpone the Music ’Cast until Wednesday, Jan. 6. Until then, revisit past podcasts at our blog, Bluegrass Catastrophe, bluecat.leoweekly.com. See you in 2010.
