B-Sides: Music & Other Ephemera

Cancer sucks!

Yes it does. Which is why The Rud (422 W. Oak St., 636-1311, therudyardkipling.com) is hosting a bennie on Aug. 1 for The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society’s Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter. The Vibrolas, The Tunesmiths, The Noonans, The Wet Towel Band Babies Project, Jamie Duvall, Dwaine Durrett and Margaret Evans are on the bill. Quite a bang for $5.

To-the-minute info is at myspace.com/cancersucks24_7.

Faehnle
Former Diana Krall and Joey Defrancesco guitarist Dan Faehnle (www.danfaehnle.com) joins Dick Sisto during his residency at the Seelbach-Hilton (500 S. Fourth St., 807-3463, www.seelbach-hilton.com) from 9 p.m.-midnight on Saturday, July 25, and again from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Huber Winery’s Jazz and BBQ Fest (19816 Huber Road, Starlight, Ind.). Faehnle’s latest album is fittingly titled Ohio Lunch, since he’s a buckeye.

Heartwood turns 4
The fourth annual Kentucky Heartwood Festival (www.kyheartwood.org) kicks off at 3 p.m. Aug. 1 at Millville Community Center in Millville, Ky. The music and art exhibition lineup includes String Syndicate, The Eric Cummins Band and Green Genes. Cover is $7, but children under 12 are free. There’s also a horseshoe tournament, which should be a staple at any Kentucky festival involving Irish Catholics.

Shock & Yawn
That’s the name of the new music criticism site launched by Brad Luttrell, former editor of the Kentucky Kernel, the University of Kentucky’s daily student-run rag. Head on over: www.shockandyawn.com.
