Book Smart: Poem

Thunder over Louisville: an anti-sonnetBY FREDERICK SMOCKDid the sudden roar of fireworksspook the dogs into breaking their chains?Did the jets swooping low over the riverin a patriotic display of noise frissonabledrive them out into the streets, dogs from all over town, their aural nervesmushed, haywire? How strange it is, anymore, to see dogsloose, wandering around, attached to no owners, on their own.It used to be such a common sightin my childhood, I didn’t even think about it.Dogs — just going about their business, their simple days.
